“Music is the universal language of mankind.” ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The Internet is full of inspirational quotes of many aspects of our life including music. They come from novels, poems, movies or less or more famous people’s interviews. I encourage You to find Your favorites, write down your own positive emotion music triggers in you and remember them when your connection with music fades. Which happens very often in any musician, author or entertainer’s life. Being disappointed with one’s own creations, with the other’s music surrounding us, with poor results of our musical efforts and of course with the money we make with music from time to time not being good enough. In moments like these remember all these words, feelings and memories you have cause of your life’s soundtrack and you will get back on track way easier.
It’s not about our subjective opinion on what music is good or not – it’s about what is the role of the music in your life… and the other people’s lives. Every single day. Starting from a quick morning coffee with some tacky pop songs on the radio, few better and worse tunes in the car played by your favorite radio station, your own gym energizing playlist, your private evergreens during lonely afternoons and maybe ending with loud party hits in the night club. Your mobile can store thousands of songs, streaming services give you access to millions of them anytime and anywhere. Music matters, so choose wisely. Same goes to musicians and djs – it matters, choose wisely cause it’s your responsibility to provide music to the listeners. To create what we call a “vibe”, to build an atmosphere matching to the venue, to read these people and surround them with “something”. You are selling not only your time and technical skills here now – you are adding a soundtrack to this particular moment, your music will be stored subconsciously together with the interior design, taste of the meal they have, wine they drink, sunset they enjoy, sea waves, words of their friends and lovers, clothes they wear, joy or trouble they have and many, many more.Try to serve a unique mix of something they know, something new you want to show them, something you like, something they expect you to play, all of it in the right proportion but make it be “something”. Cause music matters for all of us in many ways.
Remember it every time you want to give up, when your love to music and what you do seems to not pay back at all. I promise you, not once nor twice your mix, your performance changed someone’s mood, someone’s day, someone remembered a loved one, perhaps enlightened or maybe even some peoples life decisions were made and you played your role, you made it matter, you delivered!Music matters – we are on the mission.
“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.” ― Hunter S. Thompson
